Treasure Island

It was wild to think that the day before we had been in bikinis in the sultry heat of Santa Cruz, and now we were farther south, but bundled in scarves and hats and long sleeves. We took the famous Seven Mile Drive and saw sea lions and deer and golfers putting next to the ocean, and a lone cypress tree and the beach that Robert Louis Stevenson supposedly based Treasure Island on.

Here is the snippet that I wrote about it for my latest blog contest:

"OK, but I want you back to the car in five minutes!" My friend Courtney warned as I tumbled out the door in excitement. I'm an artist and she's a lawyer; our trip down Highway One required constant compromise. But this was the peninsula that had inspired Robert Lewis Stevenson's "Treasure Island," and there was no way I was letting her drive by.

The beach was empty and I could let my imagination run free as I ran with it along the pale white sand, pelted with salt and spray from the teal green waves, scarf and pants billowing in the wind. I returned brandishing a driftwood cutlass, which the lawyer, predictably, made me leave behind.

Did I mention you should vote for my entry in the contest? To get there, click this link. Then click "Save Trip." Done! THANK YOU!!
